FAQs

  • Zone Blue is an adjunct to your primary care and is not a replacement for primary care services. We will gladly communicate and coordinate directly with your primary care provider if that is your preference.

Zone Blue is designed to optimize your health span by 1) improving metabolic health, 2) addressing chronic diseases, and 3) providing you with education, resources, and treatment options to improve your overall well-being through evidence-based practices.

Zone Blue does not provide acute, urgent, or emergent services. Your conventional health care team, urgent care, or the hospital are most appropriate in these circumstances.

  • Zone Blue will provide you with a superbill, which is documentation of services provided. You may submit this to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Zone Blue does not directly bill insurance companies. Insurance companies can restrict the amount of time spent per patient and what testing they will cover, so direct pay allows you to have access to thorough, comprehensive, personalized care with extended visit time.

Testing ordered by your provider may be eligible for insurance processing. It is advised that you contact your insurance company to determine what is covered by your specific plan.

  • Yes! Zone Blue accepts direct payment with your FSA or HSA card You may also submit a superbill and required documentation to receive reimbursement if you do not use an FSA or HSA card.

  • VO2 Max Testing is highly informative for general fitness, longevity, and athletic performance. The test is performed using Graded Exercise Testing protocols. This means that you start off at a slow pace and low incline, which are steadily increased until we reach certain testing targets or you indicate you are finished. Generally, the test lasts from 8-15 minutes. We aim to reach your peak performance within 12 minutes of starting the test. You say when we stop. You will never be pushed beyond what you feel is tolerable. Yes, we want you at maximum effort for you, but never to a point which causes feelings of illness or insecurity.

At Zone Blue, we use a ergometer bike to elicit peak effort. However, we use a portable device which allows for more freedom. We can accommodate athletes who want sport-specific testing.

    Pre-Testing Guidelines:

You will need to fill out a medical history questionnaire and a consent form before the test.

    • Please wear comfortable athletic clothing and your usual training shoes. Avoid wearing new gear during testing.

    • Avoid introducing new exercises the day before the test. Training sessions should be light workouts for the 24 - 36 hours leading up to testing.

    • Consume plenty of water in the 12 hours prior to testing.

    • Normal diet for the two days leading up to the test

Eating on the day of the test:

    • Morning testing: Light snack 1.5-2 hours prior

    • Afternoon testing: Normal breakfast and mid-morning snack

    • Lunch 3 hours prior to test

    • Avoid consuming the following 24 hours prior to the test:

    • Smoking

    • Caffeine if it is not part of your regular routine

    • Alcohol

    • Supplements that can affect aerobic performance (eg: steroids, cold medication, betablockers, etc.)

  • Zone Blue allows ample time during your consultation to gather detailed information, perform a nutrition-oriented physical exam, and discuss next steps. Up to 90 minutes are reserved for the consultation. The laboratory review visit is typically 60-90 minutes, and follow up visits vary depending on your circumstances.

We can accommodate time constraints and reduce in-person time as needed, while still providing you the same high level of care.

Telehealth visits are also available for follow up visits.
